Amy Adams Bio

Amy Adams(full name: Amy Lou Adams) is an Oscar-nominated American actress who was best known for her extraordinary work in numerous critically acclaimed films, including “Junebug” (2005), “Doubt” (2008), “The Master” (2012), and “Arrival” (2016). Amy was born on August 20, 1974, in Vicenza, Veneto, Italy. She grew up in a big family and due to her father’s career in the US Army, she moved around a lot as a child. She continually moved with her parents and siblings from one Army base to the next throughout the early part of her childhood.

Amy’s parents finally put some permanent roots down in Castle Rock, Colorado, when she was eight. It was around the time that she discovered her love for performing. Amy was never a good student. She sang in the school choir at Douglas County High School and was an apprentice dancer at a local dance company, with the ambition of becoming a ballerina. Amy always cast as the lead and quickly found that she loved acting in front of an audience. When she entered high school, She had aspirations of going pro but by the time she graduated at 18, Adams realized that a professional ballerina career was not in the cards.

Moving to Atlanta

Adams moved to Atlanta with her mother after high school ended. Amy renewed her childhood passion for acting by getting involved in community theater. One of her first productions during this period was a part in a local production of the musical “Annie.” The rush of energy she received from being on stage was enough to convince Adams that she had found her life’s calling. She began taking on more roles in community theater.

By the mid-1990s Adams was making dinner theater in places like Boulder, Colorado and Chanhassen, Minnesota, which allowed her to hone her craft night after night. It was also during this period that Adams worked waitressing jobs to make some extra cash. Then in the late ’90s, when she was living in Minnesota, Adams went to a local audition for a new film called “Drop Dead Gorgeous” (1999). The film was a satire on beauty pageants, and starred Kristen Dunst and Kirstie Alley.

After auditioning for the role, Adams was cast in a supporting role as an oversexed cheerleader named Leslie Miller. After landing the part in “Drop Dead Gorgeous,” Adams moved to Los Angeles. There Adams auditioned for every parts came her to her but she was mostly given roles of “the bitchy girl”. Her first assignment came within a week of her relocation in the Fox television series Manchester Prep, a spin-off of the film Cruel Intentions, in the lead role of Kathryn Merteuil (played by Sarah Michelle Gellar in the film).

Following numerous script revisions and two production shutdowns, the series was canceled. Adams later said that a controversial scene in which her character encourages a girl to masturbate on a horse was the primary reason for its cancellation. The three filmed episodes were re-edited and released later in 2000 as the direct-to-video film Cruel Intentions 2.Amy gave a part in the Steven Spielberg great movie“Catch Me if You Can” in the year (2002).

First Great Acting Performance

Adams was growing frustrated and was seriously contemplating quitting acting for good, She decided to take a chance by accepting a role in a comedy-drama Movie called “Junebug.” Adams played a chatty pregnant woman character named Ashley, and her performance earned her heaps of critical praise. Amy Adams was Oscar-nominated for playing in the movie Junebug. With the stock on the rise after the huge success of “Junebug,” Adams started getting offers to play the kind of roles she always wanted to play.

From then, she played in a lot of great films.
